What About: Tips / Gratuities?
Quite often I am asked, “Should I tip?” “Do other people tip?” and/or “How much is usual or appropriate?”
Questions and the Answers
Should I tip?:
Our employees are paid fair wages, (including travel time to and from each job) so, while very much appreciated, they do not expect, nor depend on gratuities as part of their income.
We appreciate thoughtfulness to our employees, howevere, we do not want to lose a customer, or have someone lessen the frequency of the service, because they unnecessarily feel obligated to tip. We, and our employees, would much prefer to keep you as a regular customer than have tipping cause you a financial burden.
Do other people tip?
Some tip regularly; Many customers do not tip at all; Some customers tip occasionally; or just during the holidays.
How much is ‘usual’ or ‘appropriate'?
For those who do tip; although sometimes it’s less, most common is $5 per person; $10 each is very generous. Customers that tip more are really being overly generous!
Tipping a percentage of the fee is really not necessary as our employees are paid fair wages.
NOTE: Please help with our bookkeeping; if you do pay a tip/gratuity, and it is included in a check along with payment for services, we ask that you note the tip amount in the memo section.
